Louise Riley Herb was the youngest child of John W. Riley (born in Ireland) and his wife, Nancy Jane Graston Riley of Indiana. She was their only child born in Tennessee. She married John Baptist Herb on November 23, 1910 in a wedding performed by Fr. T.C. Abbott. Five months later, her husband John was tragically killed by a train while working at the Tennessee Central Railway railyard, where he was a foreman. Their posthumous son was born December 30, 1911, and he was named John Baptist Herb, Junior.
