Elizabeth Vance Cryder, 80, passed away January 27, 2014 in Idaho Falls, ID. She was born January 15, 1934 in Yuma, KY to Robert and Edna Vance. She grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City, UT.
Elizabeth loved her family with all her heart and would travel far and wide to be with her immediate and extended family. She loved to travel and was devoted to learning.
Elizabeth was one of the first two women police officers in Salt Lake City and is remembered as being compassionate to the to the underdog in society. She also worked as a supervisor for the Salt Lake County Detention Center and was a small business owner in Salt Lake City for a time. She then moved to California where she became a records clerk for the City of Garden Grove, a then a welfare eligibility worker and fraud investigator for Orange County. On moving to Boise, ID she took a position as investigator for the Idaho court system, conducting pre-sentencing investigations of felony offenders. According to her many coworkers she was always kind and caring to all.
Elizabeth was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and her favorite assignment was welcoming new citizens to America. She spoke of her beloved country and handed out small Americans flags. She was crowned Queen of Fort Union Days and later was first runner up in the Mrs. Boise Idaho contest. Elizabeth was a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit.
Elizabeth was wonderfully cared for at the Good Samaritan Society and by Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
She is survived by sisters Mary Meager of Mesquite, TX, and Susie Vance Kramer of Idaho Falls, by brothers Robert Carl Vance of Salt Lake City, and James W Vance of Tetonia, Idaho, and by numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and by sisters Delores Vance Brett, Juanita Vance Montoya, and Louella Vance Drenk.
A memorial service will be held at the Redwood Memorial Gardens, 6500 Redwood Road in Salt Lake City at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.buckmillerhann.com.
