Peoria, IL - Donna Jean Bohrnell, 72, of Schaumburg, Ill., formerly of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to the late Eugene and Mary Herbst on Sept. 1, 1941, in Peoria, Ill. Donna received a BA in Education from Bradley University in 1963, and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Illinois in 1969. She married Norman Bohrnell in 1966, and they lived together in Framingham, Mass., and St. Louis, Mo., before relocating to Schaumburg, Ill., in 1972.

Donna enjoyed working with kids. She was an elementary school teacher until 1970, when she stopped working for pay to become a stay-at-home mom. She returned to the teaching profession in 1984 as a substitute teacher and eventually became the permanent sub for MacArthur Elementary School, until she retired in 2005.

Donna had a passion for volunteering and served as a leader at the Willow Creek Food Pantry on the Saturday morning team for 25 years. She loved studying the Bible and was involved in a one-year in-depth study at the time of her passing. She loved dining out in restaurants, eating anything chocolate and traveling, especially by cruise ship. She took numerous cruises with Norm in her lifetime. She was most fond of her time with her grandchildren and was always looking for ways to spoil them, often with desserts.

Donna is survived by her husband, Norman Bohrnell; her brother, Phil Herbst; her children, Lance Bohrnell (Suzi) and Amy Lapinske (Colin); three grandchildren, Luke and Caleb Bohrnell and Colin Lapinske; her aunt, Nina David; and many cousins.
