I wish I'd have listened to your stories better. I didn't realize they'd matter to me years after you were gone. I can't imagine what hard times you went through, losing 2 children in 8 days, then losing your youngest in a cruel accident, having to can everything in the heat and sometimes on a wood stove during the summer after you'd worked in the garden so hard to keep it growing. Thank you for whipping up a wonderful meal of homemade buiscuits, tomatoes and dumplings, peach cobbler, fresh green onions, fried potatoes, and gravy. I've only recently learned to appreciate how hard you worked to keep food on the table, take care of your mother and your family, raise a garden and fill the cellar. I only remember 1 spanking and 1 hair combing, so we must have done a pretty good job of getting along.
