Jerome- Betty Jo Hansen Putman, 83, of Twin Falls and formerly of Jerome, passed away peacefully on Monday August 5, 2013 at her home with the love and support of her family.

Betty was born August 24, 1929 in Jerome, Idaho, the 12th child of 14 born to Samuel Nephi and Rhoda Ann Hansen. She attended Falls City School, Lincoln Elementary and Jerome High School, graduating in 1948.

After graduation she and a friend, Margaret Morrison, traveled to California and found jobs at Montgomery Ward. Betty met Joe Putman on a double date with Margaret and Jesse Hawkins. They were married in a double wedding with Margaret and Jesse in Wendell, Idaho on July 6, 1950.

Betty and Joe traveled throughout the United States and Guam through Joe's 30-year career in the United States Navy. Betty worked several retail jobs during those 30 years, as well as raising her family, often as a single Mom while Joe was stationed overseas.

Following Joe's Honorable Discharge and Navy retirement, they returned to Jerome. Betty loved all those visits with her many sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews and all of the very large Hansen family.

Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe Putman; their children, Joyce Thompson, of Twin Falls, Jenny (Ray) Alberdi, of Twin Falls and Lloyd (Barbara) Putman, of Kuna, Idaho; grandchildren, Amanda Abram, Brett (Brooke) Thompson, Tennille (Jeremy) Smith, Andrew (Rosette) Alberdi, Katie Putman and Steven (Allison) Putman; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was the last surviving child of the wonderful Hansen family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Thurman, LaVarr, Calvin, Blaine, Clyde and Larry Hansen; her sisters, Vera Ambrose, Velma Claar, Barbara Larsen, Georgia Stuhlberg, Norma Dorman, Maxine Hansen and Jean Allen.

Betty's family would like to express gratitude to Rich Thompson for his kindness to Joe and Betty throughout the years and also to her social worker, Steve Jones. A special thank you to her nurse, Rick Routt, who went the extra mile in caring for Mom.

A visitation will be held this evening, Wednesday August 7, 2013, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 South Lincoln, Jerome, where family and friends may call from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday August 8, 2013, also at Farnsworth Mortuary, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery.
