Otis Alonzo Dickinson was born November 26, 1877 at Panguitch, Iron, Utah, United States. (Garfield became a county March 9, 1882 until then Panguitch was in Iron County.) He was the tenth child born to James Dickinson and Sarah Jane Snyder Dickinson. He had thirteen brothers and sisters. Their names are: Alice Jane, Ellen Amelia, Mariah Delight, James Franklin, Samuel Gideon, Luna Elizabeth, Robert Ephraim, Isaac Hyrum, Permelia Rhoana, Joseph Leland, Sarah Orilla, Mary Estella and Ezra Hampson. His parents were strong members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His father emigrated from England.
Otis's father owned a grist mill in Panguith so Otis freighted with team and wagon from Panguitch to Salt Lake City.
Otis graduated from high school and went to college and got an Engineers degree. He was working in Silver City, Utah when he met Hannah Christine Nielsen. (family know her as Johanna) Johanna was working there as a cook.
Otis and Johanna were married January 27, 1903 at Richfield, Sevier, Utah. Their first child, Otis Alonzo, and their second child, Nellie, were born at Panguitch, Garfield, Utah. Their next son, Leo Niels, and their twin sons, Eldon and Ellis, were born at Richfield, Sevier, Utah.
Johanna died May 7, 1912 from complications following the birth of their twins. Ellis died July 11, 1912.
Otis married Rebecca June Adams Meyers on November 9 1912 at Richfield, Sevier, Utah. Their children are; Iona, twin girls who lived a short time, twins Hope and Joy, Freeman Smith, Caluf A, Ordell, Clark R and Mary Jane.
Otis helped survey the reservoir at Hatch, Utah. He then worked on the State canal. This canal ran from Hatch to Fayette, Utah. this project took eight years. He also was an engineers for Yuba Dam. Otis contracted the Richfield City sewer that was constructed in 1916.
Later he went to work as a Government Trapper and Hunter. His children and grandchildren have many memories of time they spent with him. He was a trapper for over twenty-five years until he retired.
They had three sons in the military during World War II. His son, Caluf was killed in action in Italy and his son Ordell was missing in action for a long time. This was a great worry and sorrow to Otis and Rebecca.
Otis loved and was loved by his family and friends. He was known for his honesty and dependability.
On January 20, 1953, Otis died from a heart attack. His funeral was held at the Richfield First Ward. Burial was January 26, 1953 in the Richfield City Cemetery.
