Born the son of James Shaw and Polly Benson (1752 – 1811), he married Dorothy Ann Barnett May 01,1812 in Morgan County, Georgia at the home of her father, Zadock Barnett. Their children included Martha Shaw (1825 Ga.- February 07, 1890 Chilton Co., Al.), Sidney B. Shaw (born Sep 21, 1825 Ga. - Sep 19, 1909 Chilton Co., Ala.), Sarah Shaw (Abt. 1826 Ga.), George Washington Shaw (born April 21, 1832 Near McDonough, Henry Co., Ga. - died March 15, 1920 Jemison, Chilton Co., Al.), William Henry Shaw (born Abt. 1835 Ga. - died Bef. 1880 Clarke Co. Ga..) Seaborn J. Shaw born Abt. 1836 in Ga.- died Bef. May 17, 1915 Ala.), Matilda A. Shaw (born Oct 12, 1838 Madison, Morgan Co.,GA; died August 25, 1923 Chilton Co., AL.), and Ann Elizabeth Shaw (born September 14, 1839). During the War of 1812 he was a Private in Capt. John Cunningham's Georgia Militia for which his widow, Dorothy, applied for a Pension from the Government, Widow Certificate 8141. *Original data: National Archives and Records Administration. Henry's grandfather, Joseph Shaw (1751-1805), was a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. He was a Private in Capt. William Shaw's 1st Middleborough Minute-Men which marched on the alarm on April 19, 1775 and continued service and finally discharged Aug. 9 1780 in Rhode Island after 9 days of alarm.
