Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," August 2, 1954:
George L. Overturf, 57, of 613 South Davis street, died suddenly at his home at 3 p.m. Saturday. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
The so of Stephen H. and Sarah Kerschner Overturf, he was born in Wapello county April 5, 1897. He had lived here most of his life.
He was a John Morrell & Co. employe for 30 years, working in the beef house.
He was a member of the Davis Street Christian church.
His marriage to Irene Stickler took place September 18, 1923. She survives. Other survivors are a son, William H. Overturf of Ottumwa; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Sevier of Ottumwa, Mrs. Madelon Ross of Ottumwa, and Miss Mary Ann Overturf at home; three sisters, Mrs. Jesse Walden of Ottumwa, Mrs. Dan Wilson of Denver, and Mrs. Clyde Jones of Englewood, Colo. There are five grandchildren.
His parents, two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. LaVerne Morris of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harley Brisendine, Wesley Smith, Ray Howard, Ira Thompson, Harold Poncy and Wayne W. Ives.
