David William "Dyke" Barnhart, 83, of Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born December 18, 1920 in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert R. and Viola H. (Long) Barnhart.

Mr. Barnhart retired from Fridinger-Ritchie Co., and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 767.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Post 1936 VFW, Hagerstown, and the Goodwill Athletic Association, Hagerstown.

He is survived by four daughters, Pamela J. Slate, Hagerstown; Paula G. Coughlin, Durham, N. C.; Deborah A. Barnhart, Alexandria, Va.; Cheryl E. Socks, Bentonville, Va.; four grandchildren, Kristin L. Miller, Greencastle, Pa., and Chuck Slate, Robert Socks, Keira Solanki, all of Hagerstown; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor M. (Barrett) Barnhart, and one brother, Luther C. Barnhart.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Meadow Dialysis Center, 12931 Oak Hill Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
