Edsel Paul Chandler, 87, of Smithfield, Nebraska, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.


He was born February 7, 1925, in Lexington, Nebraska to John J. and Ethel A. (Alkire) Chandler. He attended school in Overton, Nebraska. Edsel was united in marriage to Agnes Hagan on September 11, 1951, in Overton. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Robert, Roger, Corinne, and Shirley.


Edsel worked at area hay mills and Holdrege Seed & Feed Farm Supply. At home he always grew a big garden,collecting "treasures" and working on engines. His hobbies were gathering old TVs and VCRs and tearing them apart for scrap. You could always find him working in his garage with his sons and grandsons and was always known as a teaser! Edsel was a great husband, father and grandfather and will be very missed.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agnes Chandler of Smithfield, Nebraska; two sons, Robert Chandler of Smithfield, Nebraska, Roger (Lana) Chandler of Loomis, Nebraska; two daughters, Corinne Reiss of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Shirley (Mark) Terry of Denton, Nebraska; one brother, Clyde (Margaret) Chandler of Mesa, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Eric Chandler of Loomis, Nebraska; Jonathon (Carissa) Chandler of Kenesaw, Nebraska; David Chandler of Loomis, Nebraska; Dustin (Kim) Reiss of Lawrence, Nebraska; and Ben (Carrie) Reiss of Holdrege, Nebraska; Devon and Darci Terry of Denton, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren, Carsyn, Kaden, Kaylie and Trevor, as well as nieces and nephews.

Edsel was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, Ralph, Roy and Don; and, three sisters, Irene, Fern and Maxine.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at LexChristian Church in Lexington with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah officiating.

Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
