Jennie L. Overturf
Jennie L. Bishop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Bishop, was born April 9, 1874, near Nodaway, Iowa, and passed away Thursday, July 6, at Grand Island, following an illness of six weeks. A stroke was the cause of her death.
When she was four years of age the family moved to Edgar, Nebraska, where she grew to womanhood and after completing her education, she taught in the city schools. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church and devoted to her home and family.
On March 30, 1899, she married Allen L. Overturf at Clay Center, residing in Clay county until 1929, when the family home was established in Grand Island. Mr. Overturf was connected with the Standard Oil company (sic) until his retirement in September of last year. Four daughters and two sons were born to their marriage.
Funeral services were held at the Grand Island Methodist church (sic).
Mourning her passing are her husband, three daughters, the Misses Marie and Nadine Overturf and Mrs. Denice Geddes, all of Grand Island; two sons, Wayne Overturf of Fremont and Wendell of Omaha; a sister, Mrs. Bess Heyer, of Cuba, Mo.; a brother, Frank L. Bishop, of Edgar, and a grandson. Her parents and a daughter, Margaret, preceded her in death.
Relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Overturf of Fremont, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Overturf and son, David, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Broderick and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Moosbruger of Omaha, Mrs. Margaret Overturf of Ong, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Overturf and Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Westering of Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Heyer and son, Alfred of Cuba, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schafer of Central City. Friends who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Alice Ziggafoos, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Orendorf, Miss Mabel Lucado, Miss Fern Heckenlively, Mr. and Mrs. A. Harr and Kathleen of Hastings, and Mr. and Mrs. Clement Harr of Hastings and Mrs. R. W. Gibson of Lincoln.---Fairfield Auxiliary.
