William Faber was the son of George Faber and Dorothea Schneider, immigrants from France and Germany, respectively. George (b. ca 1819) and Dora met and married in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1849, and raised their family of 14 children in that city.

The known children of George and Dorothea Faber are:

Henry Faber, b ca 1859, Louisiana
Emile Faber, b ca 1862, Louisiana
August Faber, b ca 1864, Louisiana
Charles Jacob Faber, b ca 1867, Louisiana
William Faber, b ca 1870, Louisiana

George Faber was a brick mason by profession, and he was still living in 1880, but his wife's obituary tends to lead one to believe he was deceased before 1889 and passed away in Louisiana.

In 1870, it may be important to note that the follwing persons were living in the Faber househod:

George Rhupp M 22y Louisiana
John Rhupp M 19y Louisiana

These persons are possibly related to the Fabers as 25 year old Charlotte Rupp (b ca 1875, LA), who is identified as a niece, was living with William and Nettie in 1900 in Blair.
