WALTERBORO, S.C. -- Mr. James Askor Hiott Jr. of Walterboro, S.C., formerly of Lakeland, died of heart failure Sunday (July 13, 2003) in Walterboro. He was 67.

Born in Walterboro, S.C., on Dec. 28, 1935, he lived in Lakeland for more than 50 years before returning to Walterboro. He was a retired truck driver. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Lakeland.

Mr. Hiott was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Mixon Hiott. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Harris; sons, James Edward Hiott and Thomas Hiott, both of Lakeland; daughter, Connie Hiott Wood, Lakeland; sister, Doreen Bell, Walterboro; brothers, Leon Hiott, Alden Hiott and Roy Boyd, all of Walterboro; four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel.
