He worked for 30 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria, Ill., and retired in 1982.
He served two years in the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954.
His hobbies were fishing and camping, and he had camped in each of the lower 48 states.
Lester is survived by his wife; two sisters, Mary F. Shelton and Maxine Wilkie; one brother, Wayne Merriman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and seven sisters.
