Robert J. "Bobby" Schneider Sr., 85, of Valley View, passed away Thursday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
He was born Friday, June 26, 1931, in New Philadelphia, a son of the late Francis Schneider and Effie Drusjack Schneider.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a mason for Russell Deitrich Construction, Valley View, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Christ United Lutheran Church, Ashland.
He was a very active member of American Legion Post 575, Valley View, also a member of VFW Post 8237, Valley View, and a former member of the Valley View Fire Company.
Bobby enjoyed local sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers, doing word search puzzles, hunting and fishing.
His wife, Judith Ann Klinger Schneider, passed away in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Edward Schneider.
He is survived by three sons, Robert J. Schneider Jr. and Larry L. Schneider, both of Valley View, and Gary E. Schneider, Sacramento; two daughters, Barbara J. Brown, Greenville, and Melanie A. Schneider, Magnolia, Del.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Schneider and Francis Schneider, both of Philadelphia; a sister, Margaret Yost, Pennsauken, N.J.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Lengert officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be made in St. John's "Kimmel's" Cemetery, Ashland.
