Add PhotosLocated on the Farm of Samuel H Collins 1818-1850, his wife Matilda Furrow Collins 1820-1908, and their children's families from about 1849 until the land was taken by US Government in 1942 for the Manhattan Project. The site in now under buildings of the Y-12 National Security Complex and cannot be visited.
In 1942, the land around the cemetery was owned by AG Ivey and his wife Effie, and that plot was identified by the government as tract B-116 and the cemetery as AEC #31. Records show that the graves were moved by Cox Funeral Home of Lake City (now called Rocky Top), TN. Family history says that most of the older graves were not moved. The Collins farm originally included many adjacent tracts such as B-114, B-115, B-117, B-118, B-119, and B-146 - most of which were still in the family after 90 years.
The New Hope Cemetery (AEC #32) is nearby and visits might be arranged at the visitor's center. Several Collins cousins and in-laws are buried there.
