The Congregationalists opened their Chapel on Melbourne Street in 1835, replaced the building with a Church in 1861. The Church Hall was built in 1906 on the site of the old graveyard. The burials were re-interred elsewhere. In 1990 the Church was found to be unsafe and demolished. The site was redeveloped, and incorporated the Church Hall into "Melbourne Court", accommodation for the elderly. The few remaining burials from around the Church were re-interred at Southern Cemetery, Manchester. The Congregationalists now meet at Baker Street, Stalybridge.
