Add PhotosIt is off a driveway on private property around 100m from the road. The land was the location of early settlers of the area, Robert and Eliza Jane Bailey, who built a homestead there. The Bailey Homestead no longer exists and the remains of the Rose Cottage below the Bailey Homestead can still be seen. Robert Bailey is believed to have donated the land for the school at Tryphena. He was the chairman of the school committee and was significantly involved in the establishment of the school. He was the first burial in the cemetery.
Adjacent to the homestead area is the burial ground for the Bailey and Alcock families. Early records note a picket fence surrounded the graves but it has fallen into disrepair. Auckland Council did a survey in 2016 stating the cemetery was severely overgrown and there were eight headstones found. The earliest burial is Robert Bailey who died 1 November 1907. The most recent being Edwin Henry Alcock who died 1 June 1976. There are also Alcock family graves at the Harataonga Cemetery on the island.
