Marysville Cemetery
Marysville, Union County, Ohio, USA
Marysville Cemetery was an early public cemetery in active use from the 1820s through 1880s. The cemetery is no longer in use nor in existence; considered destroyed. It was formerly located on land bounded by Mill Creek, Walnut Street, Fourth Street, and Plum Street in Marysville, Paris Twp., Union Co., Ohio
The Union County Genealogical Society cemetery web page has the following information from Marie Bouic and Rebekah Headings: "The Marysville Cemetery was located on the bank of Mill Creek ... destroyed after the opening of Oakdale Cemetery. According to the 1883 Beers' History of Union County, talk of abandoning [Marysville] cemetery dates to late 1848. The cemetery was expanded in 1863. In 1877 a tax was established to purchase new land for a new cemetery. However, it was not until 1878 that the land for Oakdale Cemetery was finally obtained by the city. Bodies from the Marysville cemetery were then removed to Oakdale Cemetery. All that remains to mark the location of the Marysville Cemetery is the brick cross on the side of the Old Union Landmark Building." The photograph of the brick cross may be seen here:
