Hocker-Russell Cemetery
Graves County, Kentucky, USA
After going through the gate we saw a very old, badly deteriorated, house that sits about 1/4 mile back from the road. The driveway to it is two ruts with grass growing between them. It was passable when we were there but if there'd been recent rain it would have been to muddy for most cars to manuver. Continue down this trail past the house and several old outbuildings. Then the trail lends down a hill and across a little creek. Just beyond the creek the drive goes up a hill. It comes to an end at a barbed wire fence. The rest of the way is on foot, through the fence and further up the hill to the left. Then at the crest of the hill, through the trees and heavy undergrowth to the left is another barbed wire fence enclosing the graveyard on all four sides. There were five visable tombstones and what appeared to be more unmarked graves. The tombstones are scattered and probably not in their original places; some are leaning against trees or lay down on the ground. The ones we identified were for John C. and Levina Russell (Jan's gr gr grandparents), and Thomas Sidney White Russell, John's brother. Two others are for Thomas's daughter, Priscilla (Russell) Hocker and we think her child, theirs were very hard to read, they were face down on the ground. The best we could make out on Priscilla's was that she died at age 21. Jan
