Find a Grave ID

Bio

Formerly known as Anonymous Graver.
Currently working on linking together family memorials of the Italian diaspora in Chicago, primarily at Mount Carmel and Queen of Heaven cemeteries in Hillside, as well as early Chicago burials at Graceland, Rosehill and Oak Woods cemeteries.
I'm also busy rephotographing my earlier contributions.
Feel free to submit any corrections or additional information to any of my memorials. I will be happy to update them as soon as I can.
Feel free as well to use my photos for whatever purpose you desire, such as your family tree. I do not need to be credited.
(PLEASE NOTE: If you message me with a request regarding a specific memorial, please include the memorial ID number in your message.)
The photos I have added are intended as a resource to help people to further their genealogical research, as well as for historical documentation of grave sites.
I will sometimes add a photo to a memorial that already has a grave photo. I do this for a number of reasons. The photo already uploaded may be of poor quality or at a bad angle. Sometimes the condition of the grave has changed since the photo was taken - an unmarked grave may have since gotten a headstone, or an older monument may have deteriorated or fallen over. I feel it is important to document changes in grave sites, and to get a closer and/or higher quality picture, if I can. I intend no disrespect by adding photos!
Most of the memorials I have added are people I am not related to. If you are a relative and would like me to transfer management of a memorial to you, just message me and ask and I will gladly do so. (PLEASE direct message my personal page with the memorial ID# or I will not get the notification.)
I try to keep my memorials as updated as possible. I regularly go back over my work and add whatever information I can find. Accuracy is very important to me. However, I am only human and therefore bound to make mistakes from time to time.
My contributions to this site are done respectfully and with honor to the deceased, regardless of what they did in life.
*I must make it clear: I am NOT a "collector" of memorials. I do not add memorial pages for the sake of increasing the number of my contributions. I am simply a younger person with quite a lot of time on my hands. Genealogy and graving are not mere hobbies for me; they are essential to my research in history. Moreover, this endeavor is a collaborative one, and owing to the overwhelming number of deceased persons, we must all work together to document these burial places before all traces of them are forever lost to time.

When I was young, I was afraid of cemeteries. Now, ironically, they are some of my favorite places. Graves are incredibly important resources for family history; as a historian and genealogist, I enjoy researching what I discover about the lives of the people I am paying tribute to. I also appreciate the peace, quiet and natural beauty to be found in graveyards, especially older ones.
It's sort of like detective work. It is addicting but oddly satisfying in a way I can't describe. There's nothing else quite like it.

My primary focus at the moment is Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. I also work in various other cemeteries in the Chicago area, but I also add memorials to cemeteries around the world.

About my memorials:

Many of my memorials have biographical information taken from the Cook County Deaths Index 1871-1998 as well as the Archdiocese of Chicago's burial records. Both of these collections can be accessed on FamilySearch for free.

Mount Carmel/Queen of Heaven memorials - Though I have many family members in both these cemeteries, most of the names I have added I am not related to.

Graceland - In the past year I have been adding burials from the early years of Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. These names are taken from the searchable burial index on their site. I have no additional information on these interments besides what I have added.
