I grew up on a farm in North Branch, NJ, site of the Van Pelt and Lane-Brokaw cemeteries. Lane-Brokaw was directly opposite our house, in the middle of a planting-field. As it is holy ground, protected by law, my grandfather plowed around it. Today, it is in the midst of a housing development, still fenced off, still protected. The gopher holes that I remember are gone, and the remaining stones are now upright.
