My name is Mary Sanders (Saunders) Creson. I have been involved in our family's genealogy for over 30 years. I have tried placing mostly immediate family members on this site who have passed away for current and future generations, and placing photos as available. Our family's original name coming to the colonies from England was SAUNDERS. It wasn't until my great grandfather, Leander Saunders, that he decided to remove the U. After consulting several relatives, closer in the family line than myself, it appears that no one knows why he did it. He was the only son in his family of all sisters and he possibly didn't think it mattered. But some decided (a few 'sons' down the line), to keep with their original family name - having both Saunders and Sanders descendants. Interesting that he and his father are buried side by side in the Dripping Spring Cemetery in KY and have different last names. His dad's only son!
