This is one of three hand carved granite markers in the southeast corner of this cemetery, This plot is enclosed with rough granite coping.

This marker has the initial "S" below the G W S.

I'm happy to see PICTURES of these
initialed grave stones that my grandfather (William Brumby Stone) showed me back
in the early 1970's.

The GWS headstone belongs to my
great-great-grandfather, George William Stone, b. 1826, TN; d. aft. 1880, in
Walton Co., GA.

According to public records, George William Stone married
*Susan Jane Hanvey or Hanvy, October 9, 1860, Carroll County, GA (wife), b. abt. 1843, GA or SC.

1860 census. His father is believed to be born in VA, and his mother in
SC.

George William Stone born 1826 moved to Walnut Grove in Walton County GA.
Year unknown but shortly after civil war. probably 1865 or
1866.
