Miss Bolick was born in Caldwell County, September 3, 1922, to the late Benjamin Franklin Bolick Sr. and Docia Harrison Bolick. Colene was the third of nine children.
After she graduated from Happy Valley High School, the family moved to Boone. She attended and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College, and began teaching. After teaching a few years, she moved to Washington, DC, and worked in the Pentagon for the Air Force. In 1957, Colene moved to Tokyo, working as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools of the whole Far East. From this time until 1976, she traveled and taught school in Germany, Okinawa, Japan, Cuba, Bermuda and The Azores Islands, Portugal. Most of her teaching was business in high school. In 1976, she retired and returned to Boone to care for her mother. She also worked as a secretary to the District Attorney until 1981.
She is survived by two brothers, Coy Bolick and Benjamin Franklin Bolick Jr.; four sisters, Christine Harmon, Cleda Graham, Cleo Cook, and Nadine Williard; two brothers-in-law, Hugh Cook and John D. Williard; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Bolick and Frances Bolick.
In addition to her parents, Colene was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in- law, Clyde and Faye Bolick, Cloyd and Rose Bolick; and two brothers-in-law, L.D. Graham and J. D. Harmon.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Jonathan Weant and Pastor John Bollinger.
The family will receive friends, following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 115 East King Street, Boone, N.C 8607.
