Wayne F. Werner, 68, of Windsor Township, died Friday, September 21, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Susan (Dettinger) Schell Werner.

Mr. Werner was born in York, on October 24, 1943, son of the late William F. and Martha J. (Harrison) Werner.

He retired in 1996 as a forklift operator from Caterpillar in York. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Werner was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Red Lion, Red Lion American Legion Post 543, and Susquehanna Senior Center. He enjoyed hunting, was an avid camper and a member of Old Stonehenge Campground. Other interests included NASCAR and spending time with his family and dear friends. He was a long standing Fire Chief at Laurel Fire Company #1 in Windsor, York County Fire Chief, and a member of the Firefighters Association. He enjoyed an extensive collection of mugs from fire companies and conventions.

Mr. Werner leaves his companion, Debbie Leiphart of Red Lion; a daughter, Roxann L. Werner of York; a son, Donald W. Werner and his wife, Stacy of Windsor; three stepsons, Scott Schell and his wife, Joan of Dallastown, Eric Schell and his wife, Tammy of Windsor, and Chris Schell and his wife, Larissa of York; six grandchildren; a brother, Marlin Lloyd and his wife, Urith of Windsor; an aunt, Iola Harrison of York; and nieces and nephews. A nephew, Mark A. Lloyd, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Laurel Fire Company #1, 94 Schoolhouse Lane in Windsor. A visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the fire hall. The family invites attendees to dress casually.

Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
