Andrew Overturf was born Andreas Oberdorf in Lindelbach, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany to Wolfgang and Maria Margarthea [Schwaben] Oberdorf. He left Germany a widower with 6 of his 8 children. His wife, his infant son, Thomas, and one daughter, Anna died before they were able to come with him.
The family left Germany on the ship 'Hope' on Oct 1, 1773 and arrived in Philadelphia after several weeks of a hazardous voyage.
MILITARY: Revolutionary War June 21, 1780 to Sept 27, 1780 under Captain Wagone in the 2nd Barren, 7th Company. He was discharged from the Pennsylvania Line for physical disability.
He remarried to Barbara Elizabet Fuch on April 4, 1873 and had 5 more children with his 2nd wife.
He and most of his children moved to the area of Benezette, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania where he established his home as a stopping place for many migrants to the area.
