Danny O. Dean, 57, of Elkton, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 26, 2012, at VCU in Richmond, with his family by his side.

Danny was born September 26, 1954, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of Larry O. and Janet Shifflett Dean of Elkton.

Danny graduated from Montevideo High School in 1972, and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah. He was an accomplished pipefitter, working in construction for 20 years, and then went to work for Merck & Co. for the past 20 years. He enjoyed bluegrass music, and was lead vocalist and guitarist for the Vintage Bluegrass Band, playing and singing throughout the Valley. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter who loved the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed his cabin in West Virginia.

In 1996, he married his faithful companion since 1983, Vickie Foltz Dean, who survives. In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christy Baugher and husband, Chad, of Elkton; a sister, Karen Dean, and a brother, Scottie Dean, both of Elkton; special grandchildren, Chad Morris, Savannah, Chandler and Mason Baugher; and a number of cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by stepson, Nathan "Na-Buck" Morris.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday afternoon, August 30, 2012, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton, with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call at Danny and Vickie's home at anytime.
