Mel was a hairstylist for almost 30 years. He graduated from Kofa High School. He was an artist in the truest sense.
Mel is survived by his partner, Scott Christensen; father, Milton (Uncle Mel) Barksdale; mother, Mary Barksdale; sisters, Sandra (Tom) Burrell, and Stephenie Barksdale; brother, Mark Barksdale; niece, Cassandra Urquijo; nephews, Preston Burrell and John Burrell.
A celebration of life will be held at American Legion (Virginia Drive) Saturday, August 25, 2012, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Mel Carl Barksdale, 53, died Aug. 18, 2012, at his Yuma home.
Born March 23, 1959, he was a hairstylist and veteran of the U.S. Navy.
A celebration of life will be 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 19, 2575 S. Virginia Drive. Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements, including cremation.
