William Darrell Cameron 86 of Amarillo, went to be to be with his Lord and savior Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Llano East Cemetery, and a celebration of life following at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church 1100 S. Harrison in Amarillo with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.
Darrell Cameron was born on Nov. 9, 1925, to Joe Ben and Mary Jenkins Cameron in Whitewright, Texas. After his father died, Darrell and his mother relocated to Pampa, Texas in the 1930's and made the Texas Panhandle his home until his passing. Darrell served in the Philippines during World War II. On March 23, 1947, Darrell married the love of his life, Mary Rutherford Cameron, and they were married for 62 years until her passing in 2008.
From a very young age Darrell knew he wanted to be involved in every aspect of the cattle industry and he was, from packing houses in Los Angeles to feedyards, stocker and cow calf operations in every state west of the Mississippi River. If there was ever a cow for sale anywhere, he knew about it. For many, many years he was in partnership with his son Casey Cameron in Cameron and Cameron joint ventures.
A Christian husband, father and grandfather, Darrell leaves a legacy to his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, infant brother, and loving soul mate, wife Mary Cameron.
A special thank you to family friend and physician Dr. Alan Keister for his care and love and to his daughter in law Bethany Cameron for her love and care. The Brian Shinall family and Mark Bridges family for the sweet neighbors they are.
He is survived by a son Casey Cameron and wife Bethany of Amarillo, a daughter Caryn Davis and husband Don of Granbury, six grandchildren Clay Cameron and wife Laci, Brooke Robason and husband Nathan, Ashley Torres and husband Will, Katy Cameron, Cameron Davis and Matt Davis and wife Amanda; and nine great-grandchildren.
