Charles David Anderson, 87, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Sunrise Creek Assisted Living. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Anderson of Montrose, Colo.; son Charles Anderson of Montrose, Colo.; daughter, Diann Wylie of Durango, Colo.; three grandsons; brother Paul Anderson of Aurora, Colo.; Ray Anderson of Greeley, Colo.; James Homer Anderson of Arvada, Colo., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment with military honors will take place at the Arvada Cemetery in Arvada, Colo.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors.

Charles David Anderson Sr. passed away on June 21, 2012, in Montrose, Colo. He was 87 years old.

Mr. Anderson was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Tulsa, Okla. His family moved to Arvada, Colo., while Charles was still a youngster. He graduated from Arvada High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942. He served in World War II, Pacific Theater Islands, China and during the Korean conflict, attaining the rank of sergeant. In the Pacific Theater, Charles was on Pavuvu, Peleliu, and was in the Battle of Okinawa. Of the near 7,000 troops that landed at Peleliu, Charles was one of only 26 that survived to move on the landing at Okinawa.

Charles married Yvonne Probst on May 16, 1948. Charles worked for the Public Service Company of Colorado for 35 years, retiring in 1986. Charles was active in Masonic Lodge No. 130 in Arvada and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association, U.S.M.C. Corps Tanker Association, V.F.W. Post No. 4331 in Arvada. He was a member of the Arvada Presbyterian Church and the Arvada Historical Society. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson moved to Montrose, Colo., in 1995, where Charles was active in the Masonic Lodge No. 63 and the Montrose Elks No. 1053.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Claxton Anderson; his father, Hill Anderson; and sister, Jewel Anderson Frossard. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne; son, Charles Anderson Jr. of Montrose, Colo.; daughter, Diann Wylie of Durango, Colo.; three grandsons; brothers, Paul Anderson of Aurora, Colo.; Ray Anderson of Greeley, Colo., and James Homer Anderson of Arvada, Colo., along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity Ginny's Kids, 5645 Dudley St., Arvada, CO 80002.
