Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on August 13, 1862, age 35, and mustered on August 28, 1862, into Company A, 11th Regiment, New Hampshire Infantry (Union). Enlisted Rank: Sergeant


The regiment was organized and mustered in at Concord, New Hampshire, on September 2, 1862. From September 11 to 14, 1862, the 11th moved to Washington, D.C. It was attached to Briggs' Brigade, Casey's Division, Military District of Washington, until October 1862, and then to the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 9th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, until March 1863.


Wounded in Action on December 13, 1862, at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Discharged for disability on March 9, 1863, at Boston, Massachusetts.


Enlisted and mustered on August 18, 1864, into Company K, 4th Regiment, Massachusetts Heavy Artillery (Union). Enlistment Rank: Sergeant; promoted 1st Sergeant.


The regiment encamped on Gallops Island in Boston Harbor, where they organized and were mustered in during latter part of August and into the first days of September 1864. In September, they were ordered to Washington, DC for garrison duty in the forts surrounding the capital. The regiment remained in Washington for the remainder of the war, until their mustering out on June 17, 1865.
