Renowned Penfield Physician Passes

Jacob Bettinger Deuel, M.D. passed away on May 31 1950 after a brief illness. Dr. Deuel was born on Nov. 16, 1887 at Piqua, Ohio, the son of Dr. W. Estes Deuel and Francis Bettinger Deuel.

His pre-medical education was received at St. Lawrence University and he received his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1915.
Dr. Deuel entered the general practice of medicine which he continued until the time of his death in Rochester and became one of the pioneers in the field of radiology in this area. He was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army in 1918. He was a past National president of Phi Alpha Gamma Medical Fraternity and was active since graduation in Beta Theta Pi, National College fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Shaut Deuel; his son, Dr. Ellsworth S. Deuel; a daughter, Miss Catherine E. Deuel, all of Penfield; a daughter, Mrs. Donald G. Stevens of Fairport; two brothers, Dr. M. Degerton Deuel of Geneva and Roy C. Deuel of Victor; and six grand-children.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Hedges Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Perryville, N.Y.
