Son of William Bruce Chewning and Evelyn Ruelma Hobson Chewning;

Brother of Minnie Mae Chewning (Mrs. Emmett Taylor Simpson) of Lynchburg, Virginia; Pearl Evelyn Chewning (Mrs. James Lewis Smith) of Tarrant, Alabama; and Frederick Bruce Chewning (wife, Bessie May Hughes) of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Jesse was born in Indiana and grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia; after high school, he worked as a Mechanic in Lynchburg.

Jesse U. Chewning died of accidental poisoning while visiting friends in Illinois; the family brought him back to Lynchburg to be buried in Presbyterian Cemetery, near family and friends.

Jesse is lovingly remembered by the families and friends who knew him and by those who know of him.
