Dean Cullins, 60, of Wauchula, Fla., and formerly of McLeansboro died Aug. 16, 2004, at his residence As a result of hurricane Charley.
He was a supervisor of elections for Hardee County, Fla. He previously was an administrator for Hardee County Schools for 14 years.
Mr. Cullins was born March 26, 1944, in McLeansboro to Herman Howard and Marie (Daily) Cullins. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Brenda (Gasaway) Cullins, for 42 years. They were married Sept. 2, 1962. in McLeansboro; she survives.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro. The Revs. John Lee, David Gidcumb and Mark Lee will officiate. Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro.
Mr. Cullins is survived by his wife, Brenda G. Cullins of Wauchula, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela Cullins Johnson and husband Mark of Trenton, Tenn., and Shannyn Cullins Robertson and husband Kord of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, Victoria and Ross Johnson and Krystin, Kyndall and Kole Robertson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marie Cullins; a sister, Ruth Tyler; and an infant sister, Melba Lee Cullins.
Mr. Cullins was a 1961 graduate of McLeansboro Township High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in agriculture education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1984 and a master’s degree of educational leadership from Nova University in 1986. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Wauchula, Fla., where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Wauchula Main Street Committee. He also served as president of the board of directors of the New Hope Child Development Center and was involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Memorials may be made to Blooming Grove Baptist Church and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
