Elsie Elkana Joyce Cruise, 88, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, in Martinsville, Va.

She was born May 18, 1922, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Joyce and Lucy Ann Kelly Joyce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Luther Joyce, Helen Baker, Everett Joyce, Grace Leake, Mamie Martin, Lillie Joyce, Thomas Joyce, Harvey Joyce and Otis Joyce.

Elsie retired from Pannill Knitting Co., having worked in the sewing department for 25 years, and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since the age of 17.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Grant Cruise, of Ridgeway, Va., two sons, Steve A. Cruise and his wife Celia R. Cruise, of Ridgeway, Va., and Dennis L. Cruise and his wife Debra H. Cruise, of Lynchburg, Va., four grandchildren, Grant Thomas Cruise, John Christopher Cruise, Jesse Russell Cruise, and Chelsea Elkana Cruise, a brother, Edward Joyce and a sister, Virginia Joyce, both of Ridgeway, Va.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel, with Keith Vernon, pastor of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and Mike Hundley, former pastor of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1to 2 p. m. on Saturday prior to the funeral, and at other times at the family home, 948 Moores Mill Rd., Ridgeway. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park..
