Leisa Michelle Maserang Heitman passed away June 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with Stage IV colon cancer. Diagnosed in 2008, Leisa never gave up, never complained and felt that her cancer was what "God gave me to deal with here on earth". She would tell anyone worried about her or expressing concern "quit worrying I will be okay". She was an inspiration to doctors, nurses and everyone in the medical field involved with her care. Heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and medical personnel who gave Leisa the best care available and were so touched by her courage and attitude during her fight against this disease.

Leisa was born August 11, 1967 in Mansfield, TX to Mike Maserang and Jeri Coppock Maserang. She lived in the Rendon/Burleson area until age 19 and was a '85 graduate of Burleson High School. Leisa participated in band, ROTC, annual staff, debate and numerous other activities. She attended TCJC and received an Associates degree in Sociology in 2008 from DBU. She had planned, before her diagnosis, to further her studies in sociology and religion.

Leisa had worked for Sprint for many years, as a business technical support advisor, until having to take medical leave Jan. 2012. She loved penguins, trivia, 60s, 70s & 80s music, bright nail polish, vintage TV shows and all animals. She was known for her unique sense of humor, photographic memory and quick wit. She had many "furry friends" in her lifetime, all rescues. Her "soul cat" Oscar crossed over the Rainbow Bridge many years ago. Shortly after Leisa's diagnosis she adopted a cocker-spaniel she named Maggie-Mae. Maggie developed lymphoma, and sadly passed away shortly afterward. Leisa called her "my cancer buddy". At the time of her death, Leisa had 4 "furry friends" - Pepper, Max, Jack and Baby, the cat.

Leisa grew up Baptist and was baptized at Retta Baptist Church at age 13. Several years ago she converted to Episcopalian and recently became a member of the Catholic religion.

Proceeding Leisa in death were her Father Mike Maserang, Beloved Grandmother Opal Williams Coppock Davis "My Mimi", Grandfather Lester Coppock, Grandfather Leo Maserang, Jr., Aunt Barbara Maserang Maum, Step-Grandfather Richard Davis and cousins Marshall Robinson, Curtis Maserang and Jacob Moore.

Surviving Leisa are: Grandparents Marshall and Ruth Gillentine Basham, Mother Jeri Coppock Maserang, Husband Paul Heitman, Sister Melody Maserang, Nieces she dearly loved-Jordan, Shelly and Emily; aunts, uncles, cousins, many extended family members and so many, many friends all over the US and world. To know Leisa was to love her.

Leisa was descended from the Maserang family who were early settlers of the Mansfield-Bloodworth community on her Father's side. Her heritage and family lines have been researched on both her Mother and Father's side of the family and she liked to say she was a "hodge-podge soup" Native American, Irish, French, German, Scottish, English and as she liked to say "a little bit of Heinz 57".

Leisa will be deeply missed by everyone who has ever known her and been a part of her life.

Leisa's earthly body was laid to rest in Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens in Grand Prairie, TX. Her heavenly body is wrapped in God's arms in Heaven and running free and happy with so many loved ones who have gone before her.
