Bil Bird Passed away March 9, 2012, in his sleep, age 66. Born Frederick William Clayton on October 28, 1946 in Winnipeg, Bil will be greatly missed. He changed his name by dropping one "L" as an adult, saying he and his wife Ly made up a whole, "Billy". Husband, father of Ty and Ryker, grandfather of Jet Kingsly Ryker Bird (son of Ty and Joanne Gaffey of Sydney, Australia); son of RCAF pilot and Second World War veteran Clayton and mother Doris, elder brother of James Robert, Bruce, Brad and Kim. Bil was prececeased by his parents and son Ryker. He excelled in baseball and swimming and almost made the 1968 Olympic swim team. In Toronto he founded Bil Bird's Swim School, touching the lives of hundreds. Bil was concerned about people as few are, and he helped many along the road of life. Passionate about family ties, he drove thousands of kilometres to meet relatives and helped Brad with my Dear Boy, a Bird family history. Bil was especially proud of his Metis roots. A celebration of his life for family and friends is planned. Donations may be made to the Metis Nation of Ontario.
