Elnora began her career with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator in Borger, TX. Elnora was the first woman in the North Texas area to move into the male dominated divisions of Repair, Installation and Dispatch. After moving to Austin in 1970 she was promoted into management, where she lead the first conversion of telephone services from manual to electronic switching for downtown Austin. She spent the rest of her career managing various departments until her retirement in 1987. Elnora is a lifetime member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers, where she has served recently as the local event coordinator. After leaving Southwestern Bell, Elnora and her husband George, owned two "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt!" franchises in Austin, TX.
Elnora's joy came during her retirement, which she spent caring daily for her two granddaughters, whom she cherished. Any activities her daughter and granddaughters were involved in, she was an active supporter and participant. Selflessly caring for her loving George and family was her greatest pleasure.
Elnora is preceded in death by her parents Timothy A and Exona Schnaufer, brother Russell Schnaufer, and sister Burnice Schnaufer.
She is survived by her husband George Slaton, daughter Treasa Telle, step-children Sharon Brittain, Mike Slaton, and Philip Slaton. Grandchildren Ilissa and Lauril Telle, Jay and Damon Held and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. David's North Austin Medical Center ICU for all of their excellent care and compassion, especially Jennifer and Eileen.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elnora's honor to her favorite non-profit, Drops of Grace, at dropofgrace.org or P.O. Box 2168 Round Rock, TX 78680.
