Dr. Charles Lawrence Anderson, of Greenville, husband of the late Helen Pettit Anderson, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007.

Born in Plum Branch to the late John Hugh and Janie Miner Anderson, Dr. Anderson attended Furman University and graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Dental Corps captain, and received four Battle Stars while serving in the European Theater.

Dr. Anderson was retired from private practice of general dentistry. He was also very involved in his community, serving as president and chairman for many committees. He was a past president of the Greenville County Dental Society and the Augusta Road Kiwanis Club. He served as chairman for the Department of Dentistry for the Greenville Hospital System; and also served on the Board of Management at the Cleveland Street YMCA, where he was past chairman of the Scholarship Committee.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as past chairman on the Administrative Board.

Surviving are his two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen C. and Kathy Anderson, Edward C. and Jenny Anderson; three grandchildren, Lauren Anderson, Claire Anderson, and Elliott Woods; and a special friend, Jean Thomason.

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Elliott Anderson; and a brother, Marion Anderson.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at 2 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Kelli Taylor. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m., at The Mackey Mortuary.

A special thanks goes to his devoted caregiver, Patricia Housey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cleveland Street YMCA, Capital Campaign, 721 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601; or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 2703 Augusta St., Greenville, SC 29605.
