James Ray Atchley, 78, of De Leon, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Harbor Lake Plaza Nursing Home in Granbury. He was born on May 9, 1933 in Hamilton County to Joe Atchley and Bertha Mae Hammon Atchley.

James was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a barber, a truck driver and a very hard working man. He lived his life loving the people around him, his children, his family and his little sister, Carolyn. He would go all over De Leon in his later years to find someone to talk about old times. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He was always a jokester to his friends and family and enjoyed making them laugh. He was a member of the De Leon Church of Christ.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan Atchley and James Rex Atchley, both of Stephenville; brother, Benny Atchley of De Leon; sister, Carolyn Otwell of Granbury; grandchildren, Michael, Josh, Ty, James and Brooke; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded by his parents; brother, Kenneth Atchley; and sister, Lila Mae Decker.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Comyn Cemetery. Minister Kris Groda officiated the service. Music was provided by Rick Smitherman. Family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association at 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231, in memory of James.
