Rev. Robert H Ellis was a Methodist pastor who served in the Confederate Army, 2nd Georgia Infantry, Company B during the Civil War. He is the son of Nathan Ellis (1770-1830) and Martha Thompkins (1772-1830). His wife was Prudence Belcher (1789-1847), and to that union were born 10 children: Martha Jane (1820-1907), Sterling Coleman Brown (1825-1885), Mary Jane (1826-1907), Elizabeth Mariah (1832-1905), Robert Davidson (1834-1915), Sophia L (1836-1888), James Thomas (1840-1892), Samuel Marion (1842-1923), and Moses Cunningham (1846- ). He was buried in Bovee Cemetery, Wayne Co, IL, 11 November 1883.
