Dorothy Lee (Choate) Hale Anderson


A memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothy Lee Choate Hale of Lufkin will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Christ Congregational Church, The Lodge, with Reverend Randall Green officiating.

Mrs.Hale, daughter of Della Bashabee Folley and John Dudley Choate was born October 21, 1920 in Ft.Worth, Texas. She died Good Friday, April 6, 2012 at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, following injuring from a fall.

She is survived by her loving family: husband, Harold Anderson of Lufkin; her daughter Martha Ann Hale and son-in-law Theodore Pence Odmark of Hamilton, Montana; two grandsons, Warren Hale and Levi Hale; and many step children and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Elbert Basil Hale Sr.; and son, E.B. Hale, Jr.

She was a member of Christ Congregational Church in Lufkin, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Mary Hall Mantooth Chapter, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Anthony Smith Chapter, Clan Ferguson of North America, the Dogwood Garden Club and the Lufkin Hemerocallis Society. In 2011 a daylily was named after her - "The Dorothy Hale Daylily".

 Mrs. Hale was retired from Southwestern Bell, Ft.Worth. She was a former owner and designer for her company "Peggy-Dee Hat Designs. She was a sales consultant and model for Neiman Marcus and a model for Vogue patterns. She loved to travel and over her life she visited many countries with favorites being Florence, Italy and New Zealand. Her sudden death leaves a large hole in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Congregational Church Building Fund, P.O. box 27, Lufkin, Texas 75902; or your local arboretum. Private internment services will be held in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
