Mrs. M. McCarthy Succumbs At 96 in Watkins / Rites Held Thursday
Funeral rites were to be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Anthony's church in Watkins for one of Meeker county's oldest residents, Mrs. Mary McCarthy, who died on Monday at the home of her son, M. J. McCarthy in Watkins.
She was 96 years old and had spent 68 years of her life in Forest Prairie and Watkins. Born May 25, 1839 near Belfast, Ireland, she came as a child with her parents to Quebec, Canada, where she grew to womanhood.
After marring Michael J. McCarthy, they came to St. Anthony (now Minneapolis) in 1866, and the following year moved to Meeker county and located on a farm in Forest Prairie township. She was the mother of seven children, four of which survive.
They are Mrs. M. F. Becker and M. J. McCarthy of Watkins, S. J. McCarthy of Eden Valley and J. D. McCarthy of Richland, Wash. Twenty six grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren also survive her.
A grandson Rev. Austin J. Kinsella was celebrant of requiem mass.
