Obituary
Ina Bayles
Ina Thomas was born in Cooperstown, Ill., July 12, 1897, the daughter of William J. and Lillie Louella Stevenson Thomas. On Sept. 30, 1917, she was married to Bert. O. Bayles at the Brown county home of her parents. Their early married life was spent in Brown county and in 1935 they brought their family on nine children to Rushville.
Ina was an energetic, industrious person and helped many families as well as raising her own large family. The early death of a daughter saddened the family and Juanita's infant daughter, Dollie Jett, became a part of the family to be brought up as a foster daughter. Ina was cook at the Culbertson Memorial hospital and later, with her husband, owned and operated a restaurant, "The Coffee Shop."
After retirement, she cared for her husband who was in ill health until his death in 1967, after 49 years of marriage. She enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren and looked forward to their visits and family gatherings.
Ida was never idle as long as her health permitted and enjoyed rug weaving, sewing, quilt making, and other crafts. Many of her products are treasured gifts to many family members.
She had been a member of the Royal Neighbors, Schuyler unit of American Legion Auxiliary and the Household Science club. Ina was a member of the Adelaide Rebekah Lodge until her death. She was a Past Noble Grand of the lodge, serving other offices thru the years. She was a member of the First Christian church of Cooperstown.
When she was no longer able to live alone, she went to live with her granddaughter and family in Arenzville and later became a resident of Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown. She died in Rushville Dec. 18, 1981, at the age of 84.
Seven children survive—JErry of Indianapolis, INd., Gene of Cleveland, Miss., Herbert of Mt. Sterling, Jane Yelton of Bushnell, Dorothy Webster of Girard, Katherine Beck of Astoria and Dollie Peck of Arenzville. She leaves 39 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Two sisters, Hallie Ingles of Rushville and Trilby Adams of Mt. Sterling.
Two sons, Robert and Carl; her daughter Juanita; her husband, Bert; and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 22 at Roby Funeral Chapel. Rev. Evan Williams officiated and burial was in Rushville cemetery.
