Florence E. Ackerman, age 88, of Filion, passed away March 19, 2012, at the Monarch Home in Otter Lake, Michigan.

She was born January 7, 1924, in Bad Axe to the late Reinhold and Matilda (Schuman) Glantz. Florence was united in marriage on June 24, 1944 to Willard Ackerman at Zion Lutheran Church, Badgley Corner. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Kinde. She loved gardening, flowers, and she enjoyed playing the organ at home, as well as the harmonica and accordion.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne (Linda) Ackerman of Freeland, Alan (Pamela) Ackerman of Filion; two daughters, Selma (Joseph) Yolkiewicz of Lapeer, Carol Hiller of Mattawan; eight grandchildren, Raymond Yolkiewicz of Baltimore, MD, Christopher (Crystal) Ackerman of Kalamazoo, Nicholas Ackerman of Kalamazoo, Jeffrey Ackerman of Big Rapids, Laura Ackerman of Minneapolis, MN, Jodi (Tom) Cox of Paw Paw, Lisa (Matt) Tiedeman of Naperville IL, Jenna (Matt) Fischer of South Bend, IN; eight great-grandchildren, McKenna, Lauren and Claire Cox, Kirsten, Ryan and Alexis Tiedeman, Cole and Evan Fischer.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ackerman on September 13, 1991; two brothers, Ralph and Adelbert Glantz, one sister-in-law, Donna Glantz; one granddaughter, Sara Hiller.

Appreciation and many thanks from the family to the "Home Care Givers", Rita McNally and Janet Waslar, also the "Monarch Home Care Givers", Lisa, Valarie, Kim, Margie, and Barb.

Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Kinde, with Pastor David Putz officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home – Gage Chapel, Kinde, and Friday at the church at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery in Bad Axe.

Memorials may be offered to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association
