WHITEVILLE — Jo Ann Dalton Harrelson, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 8, 2009.

Mrs. Harrelson was born Oct. 18, 1928 in Forest City to the late Joseph Franklin Dalton and Martha Isabelle Fortson Dalton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Alfred Harrelson.

She graduated from Limestone College with a BA in Music and taught second grade for 27 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Whiteville prior to moving to Durham to live close to her daughter. She loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking and helping others.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at McKenzie Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Walker officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 12:45 -1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her children, John Alfred Harrelson Jr. and wife, Lisa, Martha Jo Stanley and husband, Art, and Laura Wicker and husband, Robert. She dearly loved her five grandchildren, George, Alex, and Emma Harrelson, Sarah Stanley, and Leslie Wicker. She has one surviving sister, who was a dear friend, Rebecca Dalton Beam.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church of Whiteville.
