Suggested edit: I have never found any document that calls him anything but "Israel Boone": not his gravestone, the 1850-1900 censuses, his children's death certificates nor his Southern Claims Commission claim. Some believe he was known as Israel "Jack" Boone, but it is possible that they are confusing him with his nephew (son of John Boone) of that name. I suspect that the "Nelson" is speculation based on his son's name, John Nelson Boone (my gr-grandfather). I also have seen speculation that Israel's wife's maiden name was Nelson, rather than Haigler, in spite of Amelia Haigler Boone being well documented. I suggest listing this memorial as "Israel Boone," with a note that some think he was named Israel Jack or Nelson Israel, but that neither of these has been documented. Thank you.
