Eliza was the daughter of Anna Otto and an unknown father with the surname Morgan. Anna died in 1845 and Eliza is found on the 1850 census living with her grandparents, Daniel Otto and Catherine (Emerick) Otto, and her name is listed as Eliza Morgan. Eliza married Henry Emerick, her 1st cousin once removed. Eliza's grandmother Catherine (Emerick) Otto was the sister of Henry's father. In other words, Eliza's grandmother Catherine was Henry Emerick's aunt.
On marriage and death records of Eliza's children, the maiden name for Eliza is listed as Otto and it could be that since she was raised from an early age by Daniel and Catherine Otto it could have been assumed they were her parents, or perhaps they adopted her.
