PALMER - Eugene S. Wright, 79, of Palmer St., died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 11 in an E. Longmeadow Nursing Home. Born in Ludlow, March 28, 1932, he was the son of Florent and Louise (Chase) Wright and was a graduate of Ludlow High School. He has lived in the Three Rivers section of Palmer since 1954 and was a proud Veteran of Korea, serving with the US Marine Corp. A communicant of the former Ste. Anne Church, he served as a collector at the church for many years. He worked for Carborundum in W. Springfield as warehouse supervisor for 20 years, and retired from Tri County Contractors in W. Springfield after 9 years of service. Gene was also a longtime member of L'Union St. Jean Baptiste and AMVETS Post 74. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Rita (Graveline) Wright, along with 2 children Barbara Merchant and her husband Kenneth of S. Hadley, and Paul Wright and his wife Denise Spence of Amherst. He also leaves 4 grandsons, Timothy Merchant and wife Amy, Jonathan Merchant, and Leo and Owen Wright, along with 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Kylee Merchant. His sister Eleanor Beaudry of Charlton, also survives him as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Friday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Funeral Home in Palmer followed by burial with military honors at 3:00 p.m. at Mass. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
